Music Search Engine Project Profiled in Technology Review

The music search research pouring from the electrical engineering labs of the Jacobs School was profiled today in Technology Review by Erica Naone.

Electrical engineers making Facebook games (Herd It) in order to collect data on music for a new search engine.

A tantalizing glimpse at a "Google for music" from the labs of UC San Diego led by Gert Lanckriet (affiliated with both the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering and Calit2). Luke Barrington is the PhD student in electrical engineering who is deep in the digital music trenches on this project. With him, there is a hearty troop of undergraduate researchers (more on them later...stay tuned).
A nice review of some of the other players in the area of advanced music search for our digital age, including Pandora and The Echo Nest).
