UC San Diego Sustainability Guru Honored by Fast Company


Fast Company recently named Byron Washom, Director of Strategic Energy Initiatives, to the 39 spot in their list of The 100 Most Creative People in Business 2010.

"We have a device called a Skytracker, a fish-eye in the sky. We are developing the ability to predict one hour in advance the amount of sunlight that will be falling on every solar panel in 25 square miles."

Four Jacobs School Professors Among The 2010 Hellman Faculty Fellows


Congratulations to the four young professors from the Jacobs School who are among the 30 UC San Diego faculty members awarded a 2010-2011 Hellman Faculty Fellowship at the University of California, San Diego. The funds awarded will support young faculty members in their scholarly work as they strive for tenure with the university.

The Jacobs School of Engineering recipients are:

Jurijs Bazilevs: Structural Engineering
Zhaowei Liu: Electrical and Computer Engineering
Donald James Sirbuly: NanoEngineering
Andrea Rae Tao: NanoEngineering

Baseball Update: UC San Diego falls 6-4 in Division II title game

Congrats to the UC San Diego baseball team. They made it to the finals of the Division II World Series over the weekend, but lost to Southern Indiana in the final game. Read more from UC San Diego sports here.

According to the posted team roster, 10 team members (26.32%) of the baseball team are in the Jacobs School of Engineering. The count is below (major / department):
